During the first term of the year, Rathnure National School invited a local Biodiversity expert in to talk to the students about nature in their school. He conducted a biodiversity bootcamp with 3rd and 4th class, and the students showed him the bug hotel that they had constructed.
The Holly tree at the front gate of the schools was paid particular attention as it is one of the designated native plants that the school will cover as part of their work on The Great Plant Hunt.
First class pupils have been busy checking the solitary bee house. Whilst all pupils wait to see if there are any new residents in the birdhouse. Students have also been very busy making fat balls for the bird table outside their classroom windows.
